Why Secure Access?

There are countless reasons why you should protect your PC regardless if it is your home computer or PC at work connected to large network. Logon procedure is door to your fortress and when that door crumbles it leaves access to PC and/or network wide open. Damage caused by un-authorized access to computers sometimes can't even be measured in money figures but it is always huge.

Common protection with "yellow post-it" logon info and your pet's name as an password simply won't cut it any more. Standard logon is plagued with problems: very simple simple passwords, repetitive passwords, pet name, 1234, same password everywhere, birthdays ... you name it it's all there in the "easy to crack" bin. Keylogers, viruses, Internet applets are lurking with bad intentions.

While users are encouraged to change passwords frequently in real life it is extremely hard to do. Everybody has a list of passwords for logon, WEB sites, banking, applications and more. In larger organizations IT department actually spends 75%-90% managing passwords. While they are solving password problems employees are not working since they can't access their PCs. It is huge and serious problem. True costs run into tens of thousands of dollars and there is no end to it.

Sphinx solutions also take care about secure access to WEB sites by storing logon data into the smart cards. It is important to note that logon information is never used on desktop in standard way but rather extracted from the card and directly submitted to logon process. Information is encrypted in the cards. Software eliminates needs to type sensitive information during logon process where it is vunerable. Software speeds up and streamlines log-in process. Smart card can't be copied, tampered with, duplicated, cloned and it resists hackers attacks by using strong encryption. As result your information is safely stored inside smart card. Even if card is lost it will not reveal stored information.

SPHINX FEATURES

It is rarely found that software packed with so much functionality and features is also very simple to load and use. It loads in minutes and it can be used right away. Same with Enetrprise (network) version.

PKI needs greater involvement of IT department. Main reason for that is CA (Certificate Authority) that is main part of services for full functionality of the PKI.

To login you will need card inserted or placed on top of the smart card reader and PIN (that you can remember and actually use). That combination will unlock the card's potential. User can log into PC, go to WEB sites, use applications, retrieve e-mails and all that with seamless help from card in respect to passwords. When leaving PC user will take his/her card from reader.

What will happen next is easy to setup in Logon Manager. Usually PC will lock up and in some instances close the session. Nobody can use that PC now. Card and PIN is needed to unlock it again. Stolen or found card is useless since PIN is known to original user only. It can also be disabled and put on hot list in Enterprise Edition. Session control is important for users like doctor's who could possibly use any of the PC terminals available throughout facility and securely login and log out from each of those.

Many companies already have in place card access systems. It is possible to increase functionality of existing cards to use them to logon into PCs. You can read White Papers about that idea. There is small ingenious device called Sonar, a presence sensor. When deployed it will sense when you are not in front of PC and lock it up accordingly. Comes very handy for contactless applications where user taps the card to start session. We sell Sonar (89.87 ea.)
